Huawei has eyes on mobile stakes with plans to launch two new smartphones into African market by January next year.

According to the Chinese technology company, the 6-inch Ascend Mate 7 and the 5.5-inch Ascend G7, both offer captivating features for African mobile consumers.

The devices were revealed during the AfricaCom 2014 events held in South Africa.

The Ascend Mate 7 has a slim 7.9mm, curved design made of an aluminum alloy that weighs only 185g.

The standard Ascend Mate 7 single SIM model is equiped with 2GB RAM and 16GB of on-board memory in either moonlight silver or obsidian black. The premium version of the device featuring 3GB RAM with 32GB memory is a dual SIM device available in amber gold.

One of the Mate 7′s latest features is a new single-touch fingerprint technology that combines with Huawei’s next evolution of EMUI 3.0 user interface.

The Mate 7 also features LTE connectivity as well as an Octa-core 1.8GHz A15 plus 1.3GHz A7 processor, depending on country and region the company said.

The Ascend Mate 7 will be available from early 2015, with the standard version retailing at a recommended price of between N112000-N144000 while pricing for the Dual SIM is still to be announced.

The Ascend G7 LTE Smartphone is the latest addition to Huawei’s Ascend G series. This single SIM handset will also be available early 2015 at the recommended retail price of between N64000 and N80000, the company said.

According to Huawei, in a market flooded with mid-tier smartphones that have a plastic look and feel and less than desirable features, the Ascend G7 LTE smartphone stands out with its elegant metallic design. The Ascend G7 features 2GB RAM and up to 32GB of storage space. The G7 also features a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor.

Yudi Rambaran Director: Product Marketing Huawei Consumer Business Unit South Africa said that, “these devices symbolise our continuous commitment to provide customers with access to premium quality products which won’t break the bank. We are proud to announce that these fully-featured smartphones will be available from early next year and we anticipate successful uptake from our channel partners.”
