Huawei, a leading provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, has showcased its smart railway perimeter detection technology to improve safety on high-speed trains.

The solution, which is based on Huawei’s advanced AI technology, provides real-time detection of intrusions along railway tracks, helping to enhance safety and security on high-speed rail networks, the Chinese tech company says at the launch held at the 11th UIC World Congress on High-Speed Rail in Beijing, China.

The system, Huawei says, can detect intrusions such as people, vehicles, and objects, and can accurately distinguish between different types of intrusions, including humans and animals.

A centralised platform and reliable connectivity will make a digital and green industry a reality, he says, explaining that Huawei’s LTE-based FRMCS Solution can carry more new services by just upgrading the software. It not only slashes railway project costs, but also meets the requirements of digital railway development.

In terms of safety, Huawei says it is always integrating new technologies into service scenarios. Its Smart Railway Perimeter Detection Solution protects trackside safety around the clock, in any weather.

At the Huawei forum, Mr. Gu Yunbo, President of Huawei’s Enterprise Optical Business Domain, showcased the Smart Railway Perimeter Detection Solution that is built on an optical-vision convergence architecture, which enables fibre vibration detection alongside analysis to safeguard railway perimeters with multi-dimensional awareness and high precision.

Huawei: Smart railway technology is evolving

The solution resolves low accuracy issues faced by conventional railway perimeter detection solutions, prevents missed alarms, and delivers few false alarms, ensuring safer and more efficient railway operations, he says.

According to Huawei, the world is building more high-speed railways and undergoing a digital and intelligent transformation. As such, the railway industry requires network communications with higher bandwidth and lower latency to carry new services.

The smart railway perimeter detection solution is part of Huawei’s broader portfolio of ICT solutions for the transportation industry. The company has a long history of working with transportation providers around the world to develop innovative solutions that improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

At the UIC World Congress on High-Speed Rail, Huawei also showcased its advanced 5G solutions for the transportation industry, including its 5G-based train control system. The system is designed to provide ultra-reliable and low-latency communications for high-speed trains, enabling faster and more efficient transportation.

The UIC World Congress on High-Speed Rail brings together experts and stakeholders from around the world to discuss the latest developments and trends in high-speed rail transportation. This year’s conference focused on the theme of “High-speed rail, connecting the world” and featured presentations and discussions on a range of topics related to high-speed rail, including technology, safety, and sustainability.

As the transportation industry continues to evolve and adapt to new challenges, innovative solutions for smart railway technology like the perimeter detection system and 5G-based train control system, and others are poised to play an increasingly important role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and sustainability on high-speed rail networks around the world, according to experts.
