Omobola Johnson, the Minister of Communication Technology, has described Nigeria as an investment destination boosted by a very attractive ICT industry.[blockquote right=”pull-right”]According to her, the telecoms and post sector is the fastest-growing segment of the Nigerian economy with a contribution of about 8.7 percent to the country’s GDP. This makes the sector the fourth largest contributor to Nigeria’s GDP. [/blockquote]
She made the observation at the Nigeria-British Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Meeting where she delivered a keynote presentation on “A Strategic Plan for Information and Communication Technologies in Nigeria.”
Johnson explained that the vision of the CommTech Ministry is for Nigeria to become the ICT Hub for Africa.
According to her, the telecoms and post sector is the fastest-growing segment of the Nigerian economy with contributing about 8.7 percent to the country’s GDP. This makes the sector the fourth largest contributor to Nigeria’s GDP.
The Minister further disclosed that the CommTech Ministry was created by the present administration “in recognition of the increasing importance of the ICT sector to national and economic development and the need for a coordinating ministry to marshal resources and remained focused on delivering a comprehensive ICT policy.”
According to her, the Ministry has created policies and is also working on programmes that will aid the adoption of ICT by the Nigerian populace in every sector.
