Mobile phone manufacturers shipped a total of 448.6 million units of phones, including smartphones, in the first quarter of 2014, a new report by the International Data Corporation (IDC).
According to IDC Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, this represents an increase of 3.9% over the 431.8 million units shipped in the same quarter of 2013.
Smartphones accounted for 62.7% of all mobile phone shipments in quarter, rising from 50.7% of all mobile phone shipments in the same quarter of 2013.
Samsung led the mobile phone market in the quarter, shipping 108.9 million units, representing 24.3% of the market in the first quarter of 2014.
Nokia shipped 50.5 million units, representing 11.3% of the market. Apple shipped 43.7 million units, representing 9.7% of the market.
LG, the fourth market leader, shipped 16 million units, representing 3.6% of the market. Huawei shipped 14.6 million units, representing 3.2% of the market. Other vendors together shipped 214.9 million units, representing 47.9% of the market.
