Uzodimma says his administration has been actively working towards a comprehensive digital economy agenda. The state’s vision is to transform into a leading digital economy hub in Nigeria by leveraging digital technology to enhance governance, innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic prosperity.

Enhancing local tech capability for global market competitiveness

According to the Governor, the partnership will provide Imo Digital City with access to US-MAC’s extensive network in Silicon Valley. This collaboration will enable local startups and digital enterprises to expand their reach beyond Nigeria, tapping into global markets and opportunities.

“As a Silicon Valley-based startup accelerator and innovation enabler, US-MAC brings a wealth of experience in facilitating global market access for emerging digital enterprises,” says Uzodimma. “Through this partnership, Imo Digital City will leverage US-MAC’s expertise to position our technology ecosystem for international competitiveness, fostering innovation, investment, and economic growth.”

US-MAC, known for its role in facilitating global market access for emerging digital enterprises, brings a wealth of experience to the partnership. As a startup accelerator and innovation enabler, US-MAC has helped over 1,400 companies from more than 50 countries establish a presence in Silicon Valley. The partnership with Imo Digital City marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to create a thriving digital economy.

  • The partnership, Governor Uzodimma, aims to foster innovation by providing Imo’s technology ecosystem with the necessary support and resources to develop cutting-edge solutions. This will attract investment from both local and international investors, contributing to economic growth.
  • He also noted that it will involve capacity-building initiatives to enhance the skills of local entrepreneurs and tech professionals. This includes mentorship programmes and access to Silicon Valley’s networks, which will help bridge knowledge gaps and promote entrepreneurship.

US-MAC functions as both a “soft landing” and a launching pad for emerging tech companies from overseas. The organisation provides virtual and physical office space, conference rooms, and shared use of office machines and internet connectivity.

US-MAC says it also offers guidance on preparing pitch materials, refining business models, and identifying suitable funding sources, helping international companies navigate the complexities of securing venture capital.

Imo State’s digital economy agenda is anchored on several strategic pillars, including digital literacy and skills, solid infrastructure, service infrastructure, advocacy, monitoring and evaluation, and collaboration and partnership. The state aims to position itself as Africa’s digital skills hub, with a focus on providing sustained digital literacy and skills programs.

One of the key initiatives under Imo’s digital economy agenda is the SkillUp Imo project. This programme provides digital skills training to connect graduates with high-paying job opportunities and supports early-stage entrepreneurs in launching their ventures. The project also facilitates internship opportunities and offers a comprehensive mentorship program to foster sustainable business growth in the tech space.

The partnership between Imo Digital City and US-MAC is set to transform the state’s economy, according to the state government. By utilising US-MAC’s expertise, Imo aims to attract foreign investment, create jobs, and establish itself as a leader in Africa’s digital economy. This collaboration will modernise governance through technology-driven initiatives, enhancing public services and urban living. It will also create opportunities for growth in sectors like digital marketing, data analysis, cybersecurity, and e-commerce.
