Nigerian government has offered N34.7 billion ($224 million) for 14 national broadband licences to be sold at an auction opening December 2 in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

National Communications Commission, the telecoms umpire and managers of the planned auction says it “decided to license the entire 2 X 70 MHz slot available in the 2.6 GHz band to support the delivery of broadband wireless services nationally” under a plan to spread broadband across Nigeria.

Dr Eugene Juwah, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC announced at the weekend that each slot has been on offered at a reserve price of N2,484,000,000 ($16 million), representing the minimum price the government is offering each licence to intending bidders.
