The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has released essential tips for securing home networks on Wi-Fi as part of its Cybersecurity Awareness Month campaign.
The government agency says the tips will help homeowners protect their digital environments as interconnected devices become a central part of daily life.

In today’s world, where computers, smartphones, smart home devices, and even appliances are linked to the internet, NITDA emphasises the need for strong home network security.
Key Protective Measures
NITDA advises homeowners to take these critical steps to protect their Wi-Fi networks:
Change Default Credentials: Alter the default administrator username and password for your router and network devices to prevent unauthorised access.
Enable Strong Encryption: Set your Wi-Fi network to use WPA3 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 3) encryption, or WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2), to ensure a secure connection.
Use a Unique Wi-Fi Password: Create a strong, unique password for your Wi-Fi network that is difficult to guess.
Set Up a Guest Network: Establish a separate guest network for visitors to keep personal devices and data isolated from those connected by guests.
Monitor Connected Devices: Regularly check the devices connected to your network to detect any suspicious activity or unauthorized access.
These measures, according to NITDA, are essential for safeguarding personal information and ensuring the security of home networks as reliance on digital technology continues to grow.
