The Kogi State State Government says it is partnering with the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) to realise its aspiration for information and communication technology growth in the state.
Dr. Helen Adeniyi Aderibigbe, Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology in Kogi State, dropped this hint during a courtesy visit with Mr Yomi Arowosafe, Secretary of the USPF, to discuss collaborations aimed at expanding ICT intervention across the state.
During the meeting, Arowosafe says that the USPF and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), were open to partnering with the government to establish an ICT presence that would ensure the socio-economic development of the state.
Arowosafe underscores the USPF’s ability to deliver impactful interventions and adds that the Fund, “aims to extend ICT services to underserved and unserved areas across Nigeria.”
The Kogi State Commissioner highlights her commitment to leveraging technology for socio-economic transformation and notes that the government of the state was in full support of the agenda.
She assures that “any partnership or projects initiated would be effectively implemented to benefit the people of Kogi State.”
Kogi State’s effort to advance its technology sector is evident through several initiatives. One of such is the introduction of a free online digital skills training programme for the State Information officers and Reporters at the State Radio Corporation as well as its newspaper. The programme aims to build the digital skills of workers within these organisations while contributing to a more technologically proficient workforce
In addition, the state has established an internet directory known as Confluence Business Directory (CbdKogi), an online platform to boost business exposure and connect them within the state and other parts of the world.
Kogi State has also introduced the Kogi State Open Governance and Accountability Systems (KOGAS), an online application that provides a forum where Kogi citizens can assess each sector within the state based on their performances to enable the government use the feedback to improve service delivery to the people.
