The Kwara State Government has unveiled the prototype of the ₦240 million ultramodern Shonga Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Hub being constructed to boost the local economy.

The project initiated by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State will be located in Shonga, Edu Local Government Area, according to the state government.

The project, awarded to Skylat-One Nigeria Ltd. and its contractor Adeboyega Akinwumi, is expected to enhance the educational system in Edu Local Government Area while significantly impacting the local economy. The state government says the hub is one of several legacy projects initiated by the Governor to drive development in the state.

The launch of the Shonga ICT Hub, the government says, represents a significant step forward for Kwara State as it seeks to enhance its technological infrastructure and promote economic growth.

Kwara State: Shonga ICT Hub will be centre for technological advancement

According to Olayinka Fafoluyi, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Kwara State Governor, prototypes for other state projects will be released as their construction progresses.

The hub initiative aligns with Governor Abdulrazaq’s vision to create a knowledge-based economy that empowers local communities and provides job opportunities for youths, Fafoluyi says.

The Shonga ICT Hub is expected to serve as a centre for technological advancement, offering resources and training to individuals and businesses in the Edu Local Government Area. By providing access to modern technology and educational programmes, the hub aims to stimulate entrepreneurship and innovation among residents, according to the government.

The Governor has received widespread commendations for his developmental projects, including his contributions to the IEDPU tech hub and the newly-awarded Shonga ICT hub, according to the government.
