The Lagos State Government has established the Lagos State Upskill Programme (LAG-UP) platform to bridge digital skills gap among youths in the state.
The Lagos State Government, through its Ministry of Youth and Social Development, in collaboration with GFA Technologies and Wema Bank Plc, said they jointly launched the LAG-UP platform to provide the youth of Lagos State with digital skills to promote self-reliance and bridge the digital gap.
The launch event took place on Tuesday at the Ministry’s conference room at the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos was attended by Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, Commissioner of Youth and Social Development; Mrs. Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry; Mr. Debo Omololu, CEO of GFA Technology and Mr. Arthur Ikeme, Wema Bank Plc’s Head of SMEs.
The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development said the programme will foster innovation and provide learning opportunities for young people and SMEs across the state. He stressed the significance of equipping the youth with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the digital era, highlighting the state’s commitment to investing in and supporting its youth.
Oke-Osanyintolu described LAG-UP as a groundbreaking collaboration that will shape the future of young entrepreneurs and leaders in Lagos. The programme, she said, will focus on hands-on training in cutting-edge technologies, mentorship from industry experts, and exposure to real-world projects. She encouraged participants to make the most of this opportunity.
The CEO of GFA Technology highlighted the transformative potential of LAG-UP, emphasising the crucial role played by the Ministry of Youth and Social Development in enhancing the quality of life. When youths are gainfully employed, he added, it benefits society as a whole.
While urging everyone to become ambassadors for LAG-UP and collaborate to improve the lives of the youth, Omololu added that the LAG-UP initiative showcases the unwavering commitment of the Lagos State Government and its partners to empower young people for success in the digital age. Through this initiative, he said that participants will acquire the necessary skills, knowledge, and support to excel in the dynamic job market and make significant contributions to the state’s economic growth.
