Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) to embrace technology to enhance e-commerce and ease of doing business across Nigeria.
The Governor made this charge on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by Ms. Tola Odeyemi, Postmaster-General and CEO of NIPOST at the Lagos House, Marina.
The Lagos State Governor wants NIPOST to challenge outdated practices and adapt to modern realities to drive sustainable growth and innovation.

“You and your team need to think outside of the box and make a difference and revamp NIPOST. Don’t be shy about challenging the status quo. Don’t be shy about saying you want to change that you met because the people who created those things several years ago did what was obtainable then. If you want an organisation that will meet today’s and future needs, change is a reality,” Sanwo-Olu says.
According to the Governor, the Lagos State Government is committed to collaborating with NIPOST to improve physical service centres, and boost e-commerce by streamlining the movement and sales of goods.

Ms. Odeyemi, in her remarks, commends the Lagos State Government for its infrastructural achievements and initiatives that have bolstered economic activities, including attracting Nigerians in the diaspora for events like ‘Detty December.’
She highlighted the potential of a partnership between Lagos State and NIPOST to drive innovation, boost economic development, and support the growing e-commerce sector.
According to her, “I commend your administration for the remarkable strides in governance and infrastructure development, which have made Lagos State a centre of excellence and a beacon of progress in our nation.
“As the Postmaster-General, one of my primary goals is to foster strategic partnerships that will enhance the efficiency and relevance of NIPOST’s services in a rapidly evolving world. I see Lagos State as a critical partner in achieving this vision, given its status as the economic hub of Nigeria.
“The e-commerce sector is rapidly expanding, and Lagos is at the forefront of this growth. Through enhanced postal and logistics services, we aim to support small businesses and individuals participating in e-commerce. A partnership with Lagos State will enable us to optimise last-mile delivery and ensure seamless connectivity within the city and across the nation.”
She emphasized NIPOST’s readiness to collaborate with Lagos State to optimize last-mile delivery and strengthen connectivity for businesses and consumers within the city and nationwide.
NIPOST, which recently reported significant revenue growth, achieving a 275% increase in 2024, attributes the performance to improved service delivery, and efforts to address inefficiencies, resulting in higher patronage.
The Postmaster-General says that steps have already been taken to sustain this momentum, including the renovation and upgrading of key facilities in Abuja, Lagos, and Kaduna.
NIPOST is also upgrading its Postal Institute as part of a broader transformation strategy aimed at reshaping its operations and meeting public expectations.
