The Lagos State Government says it is adopting technology to improve maternal and child healthcare in low-income communities, following a strategic partnership with HERhealthEQ, a US-based non-profit.
Lagos State Government says that the partnership with HERhealthEQ, will leverage technology, starting with the donation of 10 handheld ultrasound devices to Lagos hospitals.
Apart from leveraging technology to enhance maternal healthcare delivery in Lagos State, the non-profit organisation, dedicated to bridging global health disparities, is providing support in the form of advanced medical equipment and technical expertise.

The Butterfly iQ+ is a portable, whole-body imaging solution designed for point-of-care diagnostics. This advanced technology enables healthcare providers to conduct obstetric assessments, maternal health evaluations, cardiac and vascular examinations, and pediatric interventions directly at the patient’s bedside. The device’s portability and versatility make it particularly well-suited for use in underserved communities where access to traditional ultrasound equipment may be limited.
“The partnership with HERhealthEQ has facilitated the donation of 10 Butterfly iQ+ handheld ultrasound devices to Lagos hospitals to enhance maternal health screenings,” Lagos State Government states in a statement seen by Technology Times.

“Deploying advanced diagnostic tools like the Butterfly iQ+ would significantly improve access to quality prenatal care and enhance early detection of maternal health risks,” Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, Special Adviser on SDGs says.

As part of the partnership, HERhealthEQ’s CEO and Founder, Ms. Marissa Fayer, joined the Lagos SDGs team on a tour of selected public and private hospitals, including Ikorodu Primary Healthcare Centre, Iya-Elewa; Gbaja General Hospital, Randle; Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja; Duchess International Hospital, GRA, Ikeja and the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Lagos Island.
The tour provided an opportunity to assess existing healthcare infrastructure and identify areas where the ultrasound technology could be seamlessly integrated into maternal healthcare services.
The Lagos State government has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all. The partnership with HERhealthEQ is a testament to the administration’s dedication to fostering strategic alliances that drive impactful healthcare interventions, the government says.
