Lagos State Government says it has launched a specialised Information Communication Technology (ICT) programme that will equip 200 youths with tech skills to enable them thrive in today’s digital world.
The initiative, a partnership between the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment and Mac Tay Consulting Ltd, is designed to enhance tech skills and employability in the state, according to the state government.
Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, who announced the programme at a recent press briefing at the Secretariat in Alausa, says the training programme is hoped to address the digital skills gap, and enhance participants’ employability.
According to the Commissioner, the ICT training will equip the youth with the necessary skills to compete in the 21st-century job market and bridge the gap in their ICT knowledge.
“The initiative is an integral part of Lagos State’s broader vision to build a digitally inclusive and economically empowered society and also in tandem with the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu administration,” Ajigbotafe says.
According to him, “the jet age is fast growing with the use of hi-tech, which has contributed significantly to our day-to-day operational activities. It is pertinent to equip the youth with specialised technology skills to foster creativity and innovation at workplace and homes as well as to drive the economic growth of the State.”
According to the Commissioner, the initiative will open doors to job opportunities for young individuals. The four month training program, which begins in October 2024, will focus on crucial areas such as Data Science and Full Stack Web Development.
According to the Lagos State Government, the ICT training programme sessions will be conducted three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm. This schedule has been designed to ensure that participants receive thorough, hands-on training, according to the government.
The program is expected to conclude in January 2025, upon successful completion of the program, says the Lagos State Government, participants will receive globally recognised certifications that adhere to international standards. These certifications, which include industry credentials like Information Technology Specialist – Data Analyst and Adobe Certified Professional – Web Authoring using Adobe Dreamweaver, will equip participants with competitive qualifications.
