The ongoing renovation of the Lagos State Digital Village has now reached 90% completion stage, according to the asset management agency of the state.
The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA), announced that the upgrade project at the Lagos State Digital Village sited in Alausa, Ikeja, aims to boost economic development, promote technological advancements and foster community engagement in the state.
The Digital Village represents an integrated development vision that prioritises digitalization as the cornerstone of rural transformation and prosperity, according to Lagos State, which says that the facility aims to boost productivity through ICT, climate-smart agriculture services, precision agriculture, market linkages, financial services, e-health, e-education, and agrotourism, all supported by digital technologies.
Lagos State Digital Village ‘will promote community development’
Ms. Adenike Adekanbi, LASIAMA General Manager, explains that the renovation of the Digital Village was initially intended as a simple facelift. However, after extensive consultations and detailed planning, the project scope was expanded to include major upgrades to ensure that the improvements go beyond the surface level.
Adekanbi says that this strategic shift necessitated additional resources and adjustments to the project timeline to accommodate the comprehensive enhancements planned.
She announced that 90% of the renovation work has already been completed, even though the external changes may not be immediately apparent. Furthermore, she says, ongoing upgrades include significant structural improvements such as roof reconstruction, tiling of all floors (including halls, offices, and lobbies), and a complete overhaul of existing electrical and mechanical fixtures. She also says that all restroom walls and floors are being tiled, and new POP ceilings have been constructed for every floor.
According to Adekanbi, the agency’s is dedicated to providing a final product that meets expectations and adheres to best practices in facility management. She expressed confidence in LASIAMA’s ability to overcome challenges and make substantial progress on the Digital Village renovation promptly.
“Despite the challenges we face, LASIAMA remains resolute in achieving significant progress on the Digital Village renovation as swiftly as possible,” the LASIAMA GM says noting that the goal is to revitalise the Digital Village into a dynamic centre for technology and community involvement.
This transformation, she says, will not only enhance the economic development of Lagos State but also create a thriving environment for all stakeholders involved.
