The Lagos State Government said it has rolled out technology and innovation initiatives alongside other programmes to empower youths across the state.
The programmes serve to empower youth in Lagos across areas of entrepreneurship, skills acquisition, creative industry, technology and innovation, Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Lagos State Governor said.
Akosile also wants Nigerian youth to judiciously utilise technology positively for skill acquisition and entrepreneurship.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s had earlier outlined that his administration in the last five years has committed to empower Lagos youths by creating programmes like the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, where 30 applicants were shortlisted for the first edition and will be graduating in the next two or three months.
“The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) is a Fellowship programme initiated by the Lagos State Government to offer life-changing, non-partisan and meritocratic opportunities to young change-oriented Nigerians who desire to positively impact their generation,” he said.
The Academy, which commenced application on April 19 is open to interested Nigerians possessing two years of work experience, between age 25 to 35 years and holding a minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or HND with an NYSC or Exemption Certificate, through the Academy website: http://www.ljla.academy.
Also, the Next Big Deal Hub programme, founded by Bukola Jaiyeola, was organised to empower the youth to support their various businesses and expose them to business opportunities they can tap into.
Next Big Deal Hub is a platform meant for teenagers and youths, for developing their vocational skills and other soft skills needed for their growth.
Meanwhile, Akosile, who spoke Saturday at the Empower Lagos Summit on “Mastering the Art of Business Restructuring and Profitability,” organised by Next Big Deal Hub at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) advised the youths to embrace technology.
“I want the youth to know that the world is changing at a very high speed, courtesy of technology. Technology is changing the world so fast. We have to adopt technology. But the youth must be responsible with the use of technology,” Akosile said.
Akosile, who also urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to embrace technology and use it positively for skill acquisition and entrepreneurship.
“They should try as much as possible to use it in positive ways. Let us be responsible and responsive to what the needs of society really are. I believe Nigeria will certainly become a better place in no time.”
