The Lagos State Government says it is developing the Omo Eko app, a mobile application expected to transform transportation in the state.

Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, who disclosed this while writing on social media service, X, says the app is 90% into development

The app was reviewed at a stakeholders engagement meeting held on Friday in Alausa, Lagos where the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation emphasises its role in advancing Lagos toward becoming a smart city by leveraging technology for efficient and user-friendly urban mobility.

Osiyemi says that the Omo-Eko App is a key component of this strategy that will provide Lagosians and visitors with real-time navigation, traffic updates, and essential information about the Ministry of Transportation and its agencies such as LASTMA (Lagos State Traffic Management Authority) and VIS (Vehicle Inspection Service).

Commissioner: Omo Eko app to offer traffic updates in Lagos

As one of the fastest-growing cities in Africa, Lagos faces significant transportation challenges, including traffic congestion, limited public transit options, and inefficiencies in service delivery.

To address these issues, the Lagos State Government has prioritised technology-driven solutions as part of its broader vision under the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, which focuses on transportation and technology.

The app, he says, represents a major step toward modernising Lagos’s urban transport system and improving daily life for its citizens.

Speaking at the stakeholders’ meeting, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation says the Omo-Eko app is a “cutting-edge solution” that will simplify transportation-related activities across the state.

According to him, the app aligns with the state government’s overarching vision of leveraging technology to improve accessibility, enhance service delivery, and simplify life for commuters.

The impending official launch of the Omo Eko app is expected to mark a milestone in transforming Lagos into a modern urban hub.

The stakeholders’ engagement meeting brought together key players from both public and private sectors to review progress on the app’s development including attendees from LASTMA, VIS, MTN and Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy.

The platform is expected to serve as a benchmark for other Nigerian cities seeking to adopt technology-driven solutions for urban mobility, Osiyemi adds.

He underscores that the initiative reflects the government’s dedication to leveraging innovation for public good. By combining real-time navigation with comprehensive service information, the app promises to simplify commuting for millions of residents while advancing smart city goals.
