The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) says it has launched a two-week intensive drone operations training programme for its personnel, in a strategic move to strengthen operational capacity and enhance parking management across Lagos.
The initiative forms part of LASPA’s broader digital transformation drive aimed at integrating advanced technologies into its operations to improve parking administration statewide, according to a statement seen by Technology Times.
According to the Authority, the training is designed to build technical competence among staff, equipping them with the skills required for effective deployment of drone technology in monitoring and managing parking spaces.
The current exercise marks the second phase in the Authority’s drone training series. It is being facilitated internally by LASPA officials who previously underwent specialised training under Tolulope Shosimi, an FAA-certified commercial drone pilot and founder of Tolu Shosimi Studios, according to the statement.
LASPA management said the programme aligns with its core values of innovation and technology adoption, underscoring its commitment to leveraging modern tools to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
Speaking on the initiative, Adebisi Adelabu, General Manager of LASPA, said the deployment of drone technology represents a significant step toward modernising parking enforcement and data management systems.
“The integration of drone technology into parking management will not only enhance real-time monitoring and enforcement, but also improve data collection and storage capabilities,” she said.
Adelabu added that participants in the programme are expected to cascade the knowledge acquired to other teams within the Authority, thereby accelerating internal capacity development.
“The existing LASPA trainers will transfer their knowledge to new teams, fast-tracking the Authority’s transition to fully technology-enabled operations,” she explained.
Established by the Lagos State Government, LASPA is responsible for regulating and managing parking activities across the state, particularly in high-density commercial and residential areas.
In recent years, Lagos has increasingly turned to technology-driven solutions to address urban management challenges, including congestion driven by rapid urbanisation and limited parking infrastructure.
The adoption of drone technology, LASPA says, is expected to improve surveillance of parking areas, strengthen enforcement of parking regulations, and provide real-time data to support traffic management systems.
