The Lagos State Government has introduced a new whistleblower app and live interactive website as part of plans to adopt technology in its traffic management efforts.
The Lagos State Government, which launched the services in collaboration with its Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), says the new whistleblower app and live interactive website were introduced to engaging citizens in the traffic management process.
The unveiling event took place on Tuesday, July 9th, 2024, and was graced by high dignitaries such as Mr Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos Ministry of Transportation, various Directors within the Ministry and LASTMA personnel, as well as Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation.

Furthermore, he said that the “whistleblower app will allow motorists and other road users to report dangerous driving and other reckless behaviour on the road, enabling LASTMA to take immediate action and uphold traffic regulations.”
During the event, Giwa officially launched the whistleblower app, website, and a 24-hour Customer Service Centre equipped with dedicated toll-free hotlines, a Walk-In Complaint Centre, and a new Department of Statistics, Research, and Data at the agency’s headquarters in Oshodi.
The Whistleblower app was specifically designed to address traffic violations committed by residents of the state, Giwa says while emphasising the importance of citizen involvement in traffic management. He encouraged individuals to report any observed violations through the app. In his words “When you see something, say something.”
Furthermore, he said that the “whistleblower app will allow motorists and other road users to report dangerous driving and other reckless behaviour on the road, enabling LASTMA to take immediate action and uphold traffic regulations.” He added that the “public can also earn points for every valid incident they report and get rewarded for their actions.”
Meanwhile, the agency disclosed that the whistleblower app is now available for download on the Android Play Store, providing easy access to concerned citizens.
Giwa also said that the live interactive website offers a platform for citizens to engage with traffic management personnel. He urged everyone to embrace this initiative and play an active role in ensuring safer roads for all.
LASTMA was established in July 2000 to address the deficiencies in traffic management at that time. It operates as an agency under the supervision of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, with support from legislation passed by the Lagos State House of Assembly, including the latest Lagos Transport Sector Reformed Law of 2018.
The primary objective of LASTMA is to enhance the efficiency of the State’s transportation system, promoting the smooth flow of traffic and reducing the occurrence of accidents.
