Interswitch, a leading African integrated payments company, is set to host a roundtable discussion today on the implementation of the Lagos Smart Health Information Platform (LagosSHIP).
The inaugural stakeholder engagement roundtable is themed “Data-Driven Partnerships: Shaping Health Outcomes in Lagos Today & Tomorrow.”
LagosSHIP to close gaps in e-medical records
According to Interswitch, “The go-live of the Lagos Smart Health Information Platform will significantly close the identified gaps in electronic medical records (EMR) management, essentially addressing long-standing constraints including end-to-end data visibility, process inefficiencies, limited transparency and inadequacy of necessary tools and supplies, among other issues.”
LagosSHIP is a digital platform designed to improve healthcare data management across all public health facilities in Lagos State. It aims to create a secure, cloud-based system for storing and sharing EMRs.
Developed by the Lagos State Ministry of Health (LSMOH), this initiative is a collaboration between the Lagos State Government, Interswitch, and eClat, an Interswitch health tech company.
The Lagos State Government and Interswitch formally signed a concession agreement two months ago to initiate the development and management of LagosSHIP. A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), The Digital Health Platform Limited, was established to oversee the project.
The platform is expected to address critical challenges in the healthcare sector, including fragmented data, inefficiencies in patient care processes, and limited access to vital health information. By centralising electronic medical records (EMRs) and leveraging advanced analytics, LagosSHIP will enable healthcare providers to make more informed decisions, enhance patient care, and optimise resource allocation.
According to Prof. Akin Abayomi, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, “As we enter into the era of Artificial Engineering and Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning, we hope to position ourselves to extract real time trends and patterns of health seeking behaviour that can be used for policy decisions, efficient patient management and improved training and capacity development of the State Human Resource for Health.”
While the event is invite-only, Interswitch says that the proceedings will be live-streamed on its social media platforms.
