The Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) has urged cooperative societies across Nigeria to adopt digital skills and innovation to remain competitive in the country’s fast-changing business environment.
Dr. Walid Adebosin, Acting Provost of LASCOCO, made the call at the opening of a three-day advanced training programme in Agege, Lagos, themed “Future-Ready Cooperatives: Digital Innovation, Ethics, and Sustainability.” The initiative is designed to equip cooperative managers and trustees with tools to strengthen governance, efficiency, and sustainability.

He described cooperatives as custodians of a legacy that promotes financial inclusion, poverty alleviation, wealth creation, and community stability. According to him, members place their trust in managers and trustees to ensure this legacy continues, which makes competence and innovation vital.
“As the stewards of a model that proves economic success and social equity, this responsibility falls on the management team to have a high level of competence and skills to deliver,” he told participants.
Adebosin explained that the training seeks to strengthen cooperative leadership with professional competence and ethical grounding.
He added that participants are expected to view their roles “not as tasks, but as a mission to serve and uplift,” while adhering to best practices that foster transparency and protect societies from maladministration.
