The House of Representatives says it has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to block access to all pornographic websites in Nigeria.
In a video seen by Technology Times, the lawmakers have mandated internet service providers (ISPs) to enforce the restriction, citing concerns over the negative impact of such content on society.
The resolution followed a motion sponsored by Hon. Dalhatu Tafoki from Katsina State, who argues that exposure to pornography has serious consequences, including its potential to “cause deception in marriage and which may later on, affect family life.”

Tafoki also stated that pornography “promotes adultery, prostitution and many unreal expectations that can result in dangerous promiscuous behavior,” adding that it can lead to “addiction, escalation, desensitization and acting out sexually by one person” and a “change of attitude towards oneself and his family.”
Lawmakers: Why NCC must block pornographic websites
Tafoki also stated that pornography “promotes adultery, prostitution and many unreal expectations that can result in dangerous promiscuous behavior,” adding that it can lead to “addiction, escalation, desensitization and acting out sexually by one person” and a “change of attitude towards oneself and his family.”
Following deliberations, the House urged the NCC to direct ISPs to block all websites that host obscene and pornographic content. It also called on the telecoms industry regulator to apply the full rigours of the Nigerian Communications Act and the National Information Technology Development Act against any ISP that fails to comply.
To ensure enforcement, the House mandated its Committees on Communications and Legislative Compliance to oversee implementation and report back within four weeks for further legislative action.
