Lifi.net has achieved an internet speed that exceeds Nigeria’s documented average as of January 2024 till now, the Internet Service Provider (ISP) has claimed.
The company recently announced that it now offers speeds of up to 500 megabits per second (mbps) in its unlimited services for both residential and commercial users. The remarkable speed, the ISP claimed, surpasses the country’s average internet speed of 26.74mbps.
Despite Nigeria’s growing internet subscriber base, concerns persist over the quality of internet service provided by operators. The dominance of the slower 2G network, covering 57.78 per cent, contrasts with the limited coverage of faster networks like 4G and 5G.
According to data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), only a fraction of internet users have access to higher-speed networks, with 4G serving 31.75 per cent and 5G reaching just 1.11 per cent.
This disparity in network coverage contributes to Nigeria’s ranking of 93rd globally in mobile internet speed tests conducted by Ookla in January, with a median speed of 26.74mbps.
However, Lifi.net stands out as one of the few ISP’s delivering high-speed internet in Nigeria, offering speeds of up to 350mbps for homes and 2500mbps for offices. Moreover, the company supports new ISPs with speeds exceeding 5000mbps at no additional cost.
Abraham Oluwambe, Chief Operating Officer of Lifi.net, emphasised the company’s commitment to providing quality internet solutions at affordable rates.
Oluwambe also underscored the ISP’s technical expertise in managing network infrastructure and emphasised the importance of upgrading services to meet the demand for faster broadband speeds.
