Listed: Regulator okays 2,269 mobile handsets, 36 5G devices for sale in Nigeria

Nigeria has released an updated list of 2,269 handsets including 36 5G devices that have been approved for sale in the country under the telecoms type approval scheme.  

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) released the updated list of handsets that have met the telecoms regulator’s type approval on July 2 containing 2,269 mobile phone brands across the mobile network generations including 5G.

The list of approved mobile headsets also contained 36 5G handsets that support the high-speed 5G service offered in the country by three operators including MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria and Mcom owned by Mafab Communications Limited.

NCC says the “table contains a comprehensive list of all mobile handsets that have been tested and found to meet the applicable Type Approval standards required to allow them to be sold to consumers and operated in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The nation’s telecoms regulator says that “all equipment manufacturers, vendors and operators, including customer devices such as mobile phones and wireless adapters, must therefore ensure that their equipment conform to the applicable standards as mandated by the Commission before bringing them into Nigeria.”
