Despite the introduction of Android 6.0 Marshmallow some six months ago, the latest Android distribution figures from Google shows that Android Lollipop is leading other versions in terms of number of users with 36.1%.
KitKat is closely following Lollipop at 34.3%, Jelly Bean at 22.3% and the Gingerbread is at 2.6%. Ice Cream Sandwich and the latest version, Marshmallow are tied at 2.3% each while the aged Froyo version sits at 0.1%.
This latest figures from Google also exposes the slow pace with which the Android 6.0 is running after six months of release.
The Google numbers also show that Android 6.0 Marshmallow device usage lags far behind Lollipop’s original consumption. Lollipop reached 5.4 percent of active devices five months after its launch, more than double the percentage of devices claimed by the latest version so far.
However, with products like the Galaxy S7 and LG G5 which all run Marshmallow hitting the market, the latest Android OS version is likely to see its share of the market gallop up to either challenge or knock off Lollipop and KitKat from the lead.
