In a major leadership shake-up reflecting Microsoft’s sharpened focus on growth and artificial intelligence (AI) across Africa, Olatomiwa Williams, outgoing Country General Manager for Microsoft Nigeria and Ghana, has been appointed Chief Growth & AI Officer for the Middle East and Africa Growth Markets (MCC), while Abideen Yusuf steps up as the new General Manager for Microsoft Nigeria and Ghana.
Williams, who has led Microsoft’s operations in Nigeria and Ghana for the past four years, describes the transition as “a profoundly rewarding and transformative chapter” shaped by innovation, resilience and purpose.
“I am filled with immense gratitude and deep pride for the remarkable impact, opportunities, and successes we have achieved together,” Williams says in a LinkedIn farewell note seen by Technology Times. “The dedication, commitment, and partnership of the entire team, especially in Nigeria and Ghana, have been the true backbone of our shared success.”

Under her leadership, Microsoft says it has achieved “tremendous growth, created lasting impact, and built a legacy of innovation and collaboration” in West Africa. Williams expresses confidence in her successor, calling Yusuf “the perfect choice to carry the torch forward,” adding that his “vision, passion, and deep understanding of our mission” will enable the company to thrive.
Microsoft: Abideen Yusuf has deep understanding of our mission
Under her leadership, Microsoft says it has achieved “tremendous growth, created lasting impact, and built a legacy of innovation and collaboration” in West Africa. Williams expresses confidence in her successor, calling Yusuf “the perfect choice to carry the torch forward,” adding that his “vision, passion, and deep understanding of our mission” will enable the company to thrive.
Abideen Yusuf, who officially assumes leadership of Microsoft Nigeria and Ghana, says he is honoured by the opportunity and pledges to steer the regional arm of the tech giant through its next growth phase, particularly in the era of artificial intelligence.
“As AI continues to transform the business landscape, it is an honour to lead our talented team and collaborate with our valued customers and partners to drive the future of AI,” Yusuf says, aligning with Microsoft’s mission to “empower every person and organisation to achieve more.”
Yusuf says his focus will be on driving ethical innovation, empowering local communities, and strengthening Nigeria’s position within Microsoft’s new Multi Country Cluster (MCC)—a strategic growth region in the Middle East and Africa.
“I look forward to deepening our engagement with local communities, empowering the next generation of leaders, and championing initiatives that drive positive change across Nigeria and by extension the MCC region,” he says.
Both executives paid tribute to Lillian Barnard, Microsoft Africa President, whose leadership they credit for shaping the company’s recent successes, and acknowledged support from other senior figures including Samer Abu-Ltaif, Naim Yazbeck, Mark Chaban, and Tariq Halawani.
Williams also notes she will be collaborating with Mirna Arif and other regional teams “to drive growth and positive impact across the region” in her new capacity.
Yusuf also pays glowing tribute to his predecessor. “Your mentorship,” he says, “has been invaluable, and I wish you continued success in your new role as Chief Growth & AI Officer for the MCC region. Building on this momentum, I am eager to harness the collective expertise and passion of our team as we embrace new opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. By reinforcing our commitment to ethical innovation and inclusive growth.”
With Yusuf’s appointment and Williams’ elevation, Microsoft signals a strategic pivot in its Africa operations—anchoring Nigeria and Ghana as innovation hubs while accelerating AI-driven transformation across emerging markets.
