Microsoft Nigeria has has reaffirmed its commitment to the country amid speculations that the US technology giant was planning to fold up its local subsidiary.
This pledge was made during a meeting with a delegation from Microsoft Nigeria, led by the Country Manager, Olatomiwa Williams, to Mr. Wale Edun, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy in Abuja.
In response, Edun has assured of the government’s dedication to fostering a business-friendly environment, encouraging multinational companies to invest further in Nigeria’s tech sector.

This development comes after speculation that the tech giant was contemplating shutting down its Lagos innovation centre over concerns about Nigeria’s business climate. The alleged closure was projected to impact around 200 employees.
Meanwhile, the Minister has welcomed Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to Nigeria, emphasising the administration’s recognition of the strategic importance of leading technology companies. “This meeting signifies an important step forward in our efforts to cultivate a collaborative relationship with multinational firms, driving economic growth and technological innovation in Nigeria.”
Williams, Microsoft’s Country Manager for Nigeria, addressed the recent media speculation about the company’s presence in the country. The Microsoft executive reassured the Minister that the technology company remains dedicated to its operations in Nigeria and is eager to explore collaborative opportunities with the government in areas such as cybersecurity and youth upskilling.
