Ericsson, a world leader in communications technology and services, has predicted that mobile data traffic will increase 10-fold between 2013 and 2019.
According to the newly-released Mobility Report by Ericsson, the number of smartphone subscriptions is expected to exceed those for basic phones by 2016 and reach 5.6 billion by 2019.
The increase in the consumption of mobile data by smartphone users, which when compared to now, will be almost four times the amount of mobile data consumed per month will contribute to the 10-fold growth prediction in mobile data traffic between 2013 and 2019.
Rima Qureshi, Senior Vice President and Ericsson’s Chief Strategy Officer says “the 10-fold growth in mobile data traffic strengthen the emphasis on network performance, handling complexity and maximizing the user experience. This in turn puts even higher requirements across the networks and the operations and business support systems of the future.”
