Lagos. July 17, 2012. MTN Nigeria has introduced a mobile entertainment application platform tagged MTN Afrinolly in a bid by the mobile phone company to converge the exceptional growth of mobile penetration in Nigeria and the success of the local film industry.
MTN Afrinolly which was developed in 2011 is designed for the benefit of Nigerians Africans and lovers of the local (African) entertainment industry worldwide. It enables mobile phone users access the latest information on the African movie entertainment, movie trailers, music videos, comedy, among others, the leading company in the Nigerian mobile telephony space announced.
The platform is available for free to Blackberry, Android and Nokia phone users, and it enables users to read entertainment news and gossip, track celebrities, listen to music and share it with their friends on Facebook and Twitter.
Also the app provides mobile access to exclusive MTN content through the Y’ello Centre, a multimedia portal with a variety of local content, including videos and music from Kulture Fest and MTN Project Fame, amongst others.
Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer, MTN Nigeria, Larry Annetts says that “very few mobile phone manufacturers, mobile operators and value added services providers are investing in locally relevant content. In the same vein, locally developed mobile apps are not yet enjoying the pride of place they deserve. At MTN, we have made a commitment to support the local apps community and lead the campaign to raise awareness among mobile subscribers who are still unaware of the full range of potential services they can enjoy via their mobile phones.”
Also speaking on this development, Corporate Services Executive, MTN Nigeria, Wale Goodluck, explains that MTN is committed to leading innovation to bring its customers services that will enable them to excel in all aspects of their lives.
Goodluck adds that MTN Afrinolly has emerged as a fundamental enabler of active, productive and fun-filled lifestyle, as customers are able to access relevant content on the go on their mobile devices.
According to him, “MTN Afrinolly app is easy and fast to download and the app makes it easy to access local and relevant content as it relates to movies, music videos, celebrity news and social media platforms. The app also serves as a platform for promoting user-generated content, such as movie reviews and ratings, thus empowering users to actively engage with the content provided, and fully enjoy the fun available, on the platform.”
MTN is keen on becoming a huge supporter of the local mobile application development industry and will continue to invest in this space in the overall interest of local mobile phone users and the entire country, the company says.
