Nigeria’s aviation sector is receiving a boost to its digital infrastructure following the rollout of free, high-capacity Wi-Fi services across major international airport terminals through a partnership between MTN Nigeria and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The initiative, unveiled at a joint press briefing and on-ground activation at the Arrival Concourse of Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, marks the start of a nationwide deployment aimed at improving passenger connectivity and digital access at Nigeria’s busiest air travel gateways.
Under the programme, according to the two organisations, free Wi-Fi access will be available across key terminals at major international airports in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Kano. Initial deployments have already commenced at Terminal 2 of the Lagos airport and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The free Wi-Fi project represents an expansion of public digital infrastructure within Nigeria’s transport ecosystem, reflecting increasing collaboration between government agencies and private sector operators to modernise services at critical national gateways.
At the Lagos launch event, Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, was represented by Abdullahi Mahmood, Director of Airport Operations. Also in attendance was Lynda Saint-Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer of MTN Nigeria, who represented the telecoms company’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola.
Speaking at the event, Mahmood described the Wi-Fi rollout as a milestone in FAAN’s effort to improve passenger experience while strengthening the digital infrastructure supporting Nigeria’s aviation sector.

MTN Nigeria airport Wi-Fi demonstrates public-private collaboration, FAAN says
He noted that the partnership demonstrates the role of public-private collaboration in modernising national infrastructure and supporting the country’s digital economy agenda.
“The partnership with MTN Nigeria demonstrates how effective Public-Private Partnership alignment can modernise infrastructure and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy,” Mahmood said.
According to FAAN, the connectivity project also aligns with the broader aviation sector reforms under Festus Keyamo, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, and the economic reform programme of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Saint-Nwafor assured passengers and airport users that the Wi-Fi service is designed to deliver secure, reliable and high-capacity internet access across participating terminals.
She also commended FAAN for the collaboration that enabled the deployment of the digital service within the airport environment.
FAAN said the free Wi-Fi access will be available to passengers and airport users at no cost, with plans to extend coverage to the temporary terminal at the Lagos airport and other international airport locations across Nigeria within the next three months.
The initiative reflects a growing push to integrate digital services into Nigeria’s transport infrastructure, as stakeholders seek to improve the overall passenger experience and enable seamless connectivity in high-traffic public spaces.
