Lagos. September 2, 2012:
The leading mobile phone operator in the country, MTN Nigeria has enhanced security on its network by introducing personal security number for its phone subscribers.
MTN says that this time around, it raised the bar in customer experience to empower its customers in resolving most of their issues using a number of avenues including telephone and the internet.
Commenting on the new offering, Corporate Services Executive, MTN Nigeria,  Akinwale Goodluck, says the introduction of the security code attests to the mobile phone company’s commitment to leading innovation and customer satisfaction in the industry.
“As Nigeria’s leading telecommunications company, MTN will continue to invest and innovate in order to deliver world class information and communications technology services to Nigerians,” says Goodluck.
He also wants subscribers who are yet to register their SIMs to quickly to benefit from the benefits of the newly-introduced MTN Security Number.
Also speaking on the new improvement, Customer Relations Executive, MTN Nigeria, Akin Braithwaite said in a company statement that “the MTN security number opens the door to a world of convenience and Do It Yourself (DIY) for MTN customers.”
According to him, the newly introduced MTN Security Number gives customers full access to MTN’s entire service channels like Walk-in centres, Customer Care Help line 180, Web SelfService and My IVR-181.
He said it also affords customers security and protection from mobile fraud and offers uniform authentication and unique identity on the MTN network.
The Security Number, which consists of a 12-digit customer identification number and a 4-digit security key that is totally unique and personal to each customer is already being forwarded to customers via SMS, he adds.
According to him, customers who have registered their SIMs but have not received notification of their MTN security number can visit any MTN Walk-in Centre closest to them or call MTN customer care toll free line- 180, adding that upon verification of ownership of the customer’s SIM, the security number will be sent to him/her.
Braithwaite states that the introduction of the number is another first by MTN in the industry, adding that although the service was conceived a while ago, the process and system needed time to be designed, developed and tested to be error-proof to ensure a smooth implementation.
The security number according to MTN is very important and customers must protect it, keep it private and not disclose it to anyone.
MTN Nigeria will not be held liable for any loss or damage resulting from the disclosure of the number to third parties, he adds.
“We advise that customers change the last 4 digits or Security Key of their security number immediately they receive it by simply logging on to www.mtnonline.com to access the Web Self Service or visiting any MTN Walk In Centre closest to them or call our customer care help line – 180,” he adds.
