The Federal Government has launched a new initiative to ease the burden of Nigerians by adopting technology through the My CNG App, to offer ride sharing drivers a 50% discount on Compressed Natural Gas conversions.
FG on My CNG App: CNG Conversion Incentive Programme to save fuel costs
The CNG Conversion Incentive Programme, unveiled by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources on August 9, 2024, is converting vehicles to compressed natural gas to save on fuel costs and reduce harmful emissions. The Compressed Natural Gas, FG says, is a cleaner-burning alternative to gasoline, making it more environmentally friendly.
Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), officially launched the Ride Share Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Conversion Incentive Programme and the Presidential CNG Initiative (PI-CNG) My CNG App in Abuja.
The Minister says the initiative will address the challenges faced by the transportation sector, especially due to recent fuel price increases. By offering a 50% discount to rideshare drivers who sign up through the app, Ekpo says they “are not only making CNG a viable alternative, but also reducing the financial burden on drivers, ultimately leading to more affordable transportation for everyone.” Most CNG vehicles can be refueled at home or at specialised filling stations.
To participate, drivers must first download the My CNG App and follow the application process.
In a related development, President Bola Tinubu on Monday in Abuja, inaugurated 30 hybrid CNG-powered buses capable of transporting up to 3,000 passengers. These locally-manufactured buses were donated to the federal government by the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
