Digital economy: NASENI, NIPSS mull collaboration

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), plan to work together to improve Nigeria's digital economy

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), plan to work together to improve Nigeria’s digital economy

Mr. Khalil Halilu, NASENI Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, who hinted about the collaboration said that the two Nigerian government institutions will explore partnership to help create jobs for youth in the country. 

Halilu spoke about NASENI’s role in job creation during a visit by NIPSS Senior Executive Course 46 participants on April 15, 2024, according to a statement signed by Mr. Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, Director of Information, NASENI, and made available to Technology Times.

The NASENI EVC/CEO said the agency “ was identified as one of the Federal Government’s agencies that have all it takes to empower and create job opportunities for Nigerian youths, and make the country self-reliant in manufacturing and digital economy.”

The NASENI chief highlighted the importance of helping stakeholders in Nigeria use and expand technologies. He underscored the need for “relevant offline conditions, such as an enabling policy environment, access to finance, appropriate incentives and innovation capacities,” to support these stakeholders.

Prof. Ayo Omotayo, NIPSS Director-General, who led the delegation also emphasised the need to turn NASENI’s innovations into finished products.

“Nigeria,” Omotayo said, “cannot have good manufacturing without infrastructures and NASENI is very important in all the sectors in the country, especially in manufacturing industries. We need an Agency like NASENI to live up to expectations, we can work together with you to find means of transferring your innovations to effective job creation and youth empowerment.”

Omotayo also mentioned the delegation’s interest in learning about NASENI and how the agency can help create job opportunities for young people in the digital economy.
