Nasir el-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State says every citizen of the state will be enrolled for the National ID programme as the scheme gets underway.
The National ID programme, conducted by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), lets the agency enrol Nigerians and residents across the country, and keep their biometric information for the delivery of citizen services.
Ahead of the Kaduna ID enrolment, Engineer Aliyu Mohammed, DG/CEO of NIMC had told Technology Times in an exclusive interview that the nation’s ID manager agency of Federal Government will work with government at all tiers to speed up the pace of enrolments across Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna State Governor, has appealed to citizens of the state to enrol under the state’s programme called “Kaduna State Residency Card Programme.”
El-Rufai announced on Twitter through the official Governor account that the ID programme, which kicked off May 2, this year in partnership with NIMC, will promote the delivery of governance to the people of Kaduna.
Under the plan, the State hopes to generate demography information by capturing data of all residents in the State; foster more effective administration to aid in accomplishing the primary purpose of government; provide security through creation of unique identification number and improve the administration of criminal justice system.
Kaduna also says the ID scheme will promote the delivery of social services by building a robust and secure electronic database of residents for effective delivery of sustainable social services like education, healthcare, among others.
Figures obtained by Technology Times from NIMC showed that Kaduna State in North West Nigeria recorded 556,872 out of 14,093,565 enrollments across Nigeria at the end of last year.
“The KDSG (Kaduna State Government) in collaboration with @nimc_ng has begun capturing datas of Kaduna state residents through the State Residency Card Program. The Residency Card Program is needed for an accurate database to determine the population of residents in the state, this will enable the govt plan adequately for social services like schools, hospitals, markets, roads and other facilities that we need”, announced on Twitter.
According to el-Rufai, “Every legal resident will have their own unique number. This would enable the state govt ensure better security of lives and property. Law enforcement agencies will also now be able to track down offenders using latest scientific technology.”
