The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says it has inaugurated an inter-agency committee to select telecoms research proposals to be funded by the telecoms regulator.
The committee will evaluate 63 research proposals from the academia, submitted to NCC for 2019 research proposals, says Professor Umar Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), represented by Haru Alhassan, NCC’s Director of New Media and Information Security, who inaugurated the Committee in Abuja on Wednesday, October 2, 2019.
NCC wants to promote telecommunications-based innovations through funding of industry-relevant research proposed by academics in the Nigerian universities, Danbatta says underscoring stated that the Committee members drawn from different agencies and academic institutions across the country, will “evaluate a total of 63 proposals from the academia submitted to the NCC.”
According to the EVC, “the Committee is expected to be thorough and provide reliable advice that will assist the Commission in achieving its objective of promoting telecommunications-based innovations in the academia.”
The EVC urged the Committee members “to be dispassionate, honest and fair” in their assessment, in keeping with NCC’s desire to further develop and increase world-class local content input in the Nigerian telecommunications industry.
