The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has called on university administrations to address data protection in the era of virtual learning in Nigeria.
Dr. Vincent Olatunji, NDPC National Commissioner/CEO who made the call during a lecture at Ekiti State University (EKSU), underscored the significance of data protection in the era of virtual university administration across the country.


In his presentation titled “The Myths and Realities of Virtual University Administration in the Face of Economic Downturn,” Olatunji discussed the concept of virtual universities, the state of virtual education in Nigeria, key challenges, and the future outlook of virtual university administration.
During the lecture which was held in honour of Prof. Edward Olanipekun, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of EKSU, Olatunji stressed the importance of data protection in virtual university settings, while urging the university to adhere to the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act).
He highlighted the university’s role as a major data controller and encouraged the institution to prioritise compliance with data protection regulations to ensure the integrity and security of its digital operations.
