The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and Financial Inclusion Centre (FIC) say they are collaborating to train 210,000 agents on the use of QR code technology for data protection.
under the plan the training will equip the 210,000 agents with the skills to handle personal data securely with a focus on using QR code technology for data protection.

Sola Brickersteth, FIC’s Group Director of Business Development, presented the initiative during a courtesy visit to the NDPC, stressing the need for NDPC’s guidance to ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
According to him, training programme, supported by the Office of the Vice President and the Central Bank of Nigeria, will play a key role in the country’s financial inclusion efforts while ensuring data security.
The new product, Brickersteth says, will address the common issues associated with paper-based registrations, particularly the subsequent misuse of personal data. “The product is aimed at eliminating paper-reliant registration and the usual subsequent misuse of data given in this format by making use of Quick Response (QR) Code to confirm the identity of anyone previously registered with the National Identity Management Commission,” he explains.
Dr. Vincent Olatunji, NDPC’s National Commissioner and CEO, expressed support for the initiative and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to promoting secure data practices across Nigeria.
The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), established by the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, says it continues to safeguard data privacy, enforce regulations, and promote responsible data management practices across Nigeria.
