The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), says that there is an urgent need for data protection skills among the 83 million Nigerian youths with internet access.
Dr. Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner/CEO, Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) dropped this hint during a lecture at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) Cybersecurity Awareness Week 2024.


Data Protection: NDPC inks deal with Youth Development Ministry to train 500 youths, CEO says
In his presentation titled “Youths and Data Privacy: Educating the Next Generation of Digital Citizens,” Olatunji outlined key highlights of data protection including the rights of data subjects, consent, the right to be informed, access, rectification, portability, and erasure.
He also highlighted the responsibilities of young people to exercise these rights, read privacy policies, and report data breaches to the NDPC.
To empower youth in this area, the NDPC National Commissioner/CEO announced a partnership with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to train 5,000 young Nigerians in data privacy and protection. He also mentioned the domestication of data protection certification, which will allow these individuals to gain expertise at reduced costs in Naira.
He also encouraged young Nigerians to explore career opportunities in the data protection field and stressed the importance of educating themselves about responsible technology use to foster a secure digital future.
