The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), has underscored the necessity for stringent data protection measures within the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST), the nation’s postal services.
Dr. Vincent Olatunji, the National Commissioner and CEO of NDPC, who made this call during a courtesy visit to NIPOST’s headquarters also emphasised the critical role of safeguarding personal data in the agency’s operations.
While, addressing Mrs. Tola Odeyemi, Postmaster General and CEO of NIPOST, Olatunji provided an overview of the NDPC’s mission and the significance of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, the governing laws for data protection in the country.

Compliance with the NDP Act, Olatunji says, would create trust and confidence in the data processing activities of NIPOST and would eradicate fear among data subjects and multinationals.
He further announced the provision of free training on data protection and privacy for NIPOST staff to raise awareness and ensure the effective implementation of data protection practices.
The NIPOST CEO expressed her gratitude for the visit and acknowledged the need for improved compliance within the postal services agency.
She noted that with over one thousand points across Nigeria processing data daily, the proposed training would significantly enhance the agency’s credibility and operational efficiency.
