The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) says its agreement to Hotspot, a technology company specialising in rural connectivity solutions, will contribute to bridging the digital divide the country.
The government-owned satellite company, NIGCOMSAT announced that it signed the deal with Hotspot to leverage space service in transforming internet access in underserved communities across Nigeria.

The collaboration seeks to leverage advanced satellite technology and innovative connectivity solutions to bridge the digital divide under the project that targets remote areas that have historically lacked reliable and affordable internet services, Aisha Bantam, Assistant General Manager, Corporate Affairs at NIGCOMSAT says in a statement.
“By combining NIGCOMSAT’s extensive satellite infrastructure and Hotspot’s expertise in rural connectivity, this partnership will empower communities to bridge the digital divide and unlock new opportunities for socioeconomic development.
“At NIGCOMSAT,” Bantam says, “we are committed to leveraging our technological capabilities to drive digital transformation and improve the lives of Nigerians, especially those in underserved regions.
According to Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, NIGCOMSAT Managing Director and CEO, the “collaboration with Hotspot highlights our unwavering dedication to connect the unconnected and ensure that no community is left behind in the digital age.”
Engineer Morenikeji Aniye, Hotspot CEO, highlights their joint mission to provide internet access to millions of underserved individuals. “By pooling resources and expertise.”
Aniye says that “we will deploy solutions that enable rural communities to participate fully in the digital economy.”
According to the satellite company, “the rural connectivity project will utilize the NigComSat-1R Ka-Band platform, with Hotspot planning initial deployments in select rural communities within the next six months.”
