Nigeria Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT), the government owned satellite services provider says it is launching its own Ka-band satellite solution to offer “affordable” communication to businesses and consumers in the country.
The satellite company says its new foray forms part of the Federal Government’s effort to expand technology to rural communities.

“Once NIGCOMSAT rolls out at the launch, Nigerians can reach out to any of our partners to get improved services at minimal rates. Our Ka-band satellite covers the entire West African region”, Adamu Idris, Head of Public Affairs of the company says in a statement.
NIGCOMSAT also says the new service will also improve the delivery of ultra-high speed connectivity and content in the mainstream of Nigerian businesses. NIGCOMSAT is set launch its own Ka-band satellite solution.
“The Ka-band will offer an advanced satellite system affordable to Nigerians most especially at the rural communities. For a start, we are working with our partners One Network and Clear Sky Broadband to provide Ka-band services to Nigeria’s Postal Service”, according to NIGCOMSAT.
“With this introduction of Ka-band satellite solution to Nigeria, NIGCOMSAT is set to revolutionalise satellite broadband services in Nigeria with the aim of making it more affordable for small business and consumers.”
According to the company’s spokesman, “Nigerians who used the Ka-band satellite broadband services have had to pay exorbitant fees to private service providers located in Europe and Asia, including other parts of the world for services that can be provided at a lower and more affordable rates if provided locally.”
