NIGCOMSAT to showcase 20 Emerging Startups at Nigerian Satellite Week 2024

The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) says it plans to showcase innovative solutions developed by 20 space and satellite-based startups enrolled in its Accelerator Programme at the inaugural edition of “Nigerian Satellite Week 2024” taking place from October 16 to 19.

The week-long event aims to emphasize the critical role of satellite technology in fostering innovation, enhancing connectivity, and driving economic growth across Nigeria and the broader African continent, according to the Nigerian government-owned satellite services company.

NIGCOMSAT highlighted that as digital transformation accelerates globally, the significance of satellite technology in bridging the digital divide cannot be overstated.

“NIGCOMSAT will also showcase the innovative solutions developed by the 20 space and satellite-based startups enrolled in the NIGCOMSAT Accelerator Programme. This demo will highlight the creativity and potential of emerging entrepreneurs in the satellite industry, providing them with a platform to present their groundbreaking ideas to potential investors and partners,” the satellite company says.

NIGCOMSAT says its initiative seeks to bring together industry leaders, government officials, and innovators to discuss the future of satellite technology and its application across key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and telecoms.

“NIGCOMSAT will also showcase the innovative solutions developed by the 20 space and satellite-based startups enrolled in the NIGCOMSAT Accelerator Programme. This demo will highlight the creativity and potential of emerging entrepreneurs in the satellite industry, providing them with a platform to present their groundbreaking ideas to potential investors and partners,” the satellite company says.

“The week will culminate in a Dinner and Awards Night, celebrating outstanding contributions to the satellite industry. This event will honour individuals and organisations that have made significant strides in advancing satellite technology and promoting its benefits across Nigeria.”

Under the theme “Empowering Nigeria’s Digital Future: Innovations in Satellite Technology and Entrepreneurship,” the event will feature a diverse array of activities designed to promote collaboration and showcase advancements within the satellite industry. The event will kick off with a Press Day, during which NIGCOMSAT will officially announce the event’s agenda and underline the importance of satellite technology in Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape.

Highlights of the week include a Stakeholders Forum where experts will convene to evaluate the current state and future prospects of satellite technology in Nigeria. Participants will engage in discussions focused on collaborative opportunities, sharing best practices, and strengthening the satellite ecosystem in the region.

Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, Managing Director and CEO, NIGCOMSAT Ltd., expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming event, highlighting its potential to elevate Nigeria’s standing in the global satellite market.

She invited all stakeholders, industry professionals, and the general public to participate in this exciting initiative and extended gratitude to those who have played pivotal roles in the growth and development of Nigeria’s satellite industry.
