Nigeria’s new Accountant-General underwent ‘rigourous’ ICT test

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant-General of the Federation, following "rigorous" tests including an ICT proficiency test.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant-General of the Federation, following “rigorous” tests that included ICT proficiency.

Ogunjimi’s appointment, effective from March 7, 2025, comes after a “competitive, rigorous and merit-based process” where candidates where evaluated through written assessments, an ICT proficiency test and oral interviews involving Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service, according to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement issued on Tuesday.

“The selection process underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions,” the statement reads.

Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, aged 57, who takes over from Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein as the Accountant-General, brings a wealth of experience and qualifications to the role. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.

Ogunjimi is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, demonstrating his expertise in accounting and taxation.

The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation , often described as the treasury of Nigeria is responsible for managing the nations’s finances including supervising federal accounts and publishing the Government’s financial statements.
