Nigeria’s National Data Protection Commission (NDPC) says it has forged a strategic alliance with the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) to address global data security challenges.
Led by National Commissioner Dr. Vincent Olatunji, the NDPC delegation engaged in comprehensive discussions with CAICT, a key player in China’s telecoms and digital economy sector under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, according to a statement by NDPC.

“Discussion during the meeting,” the Nigerian federal data protection agency says, “centered around data security best practices, China’s data security laws, management systems and standards, China’s legal framework for secure cross-border data transfers, including the 2017 Cybersecurity Law”.
CAICT emphasised the structured implementation framework that delineates industry-specific and provincial responsibilities in data management. The discussion also addressed challenges associated with handling unstructured data and the complexities of centralised data transfers within China’s vast digital ecosystem.
In addition to regulatory aspects, CAICT underscored the importance of nurturing talent specialised in data security, supporting sector-specific standards, and bridging gaps between talent supply and demand in the industry.
Both delegations reiterated their commitment to ongoing initiatives aimed at establishing a unified data transaction platform and fostering multilateral agreements to facilitate secure data exchanges, according to the NDPC statement.
