Mr Marek Zmyslowski, Managing Director Jovago has identified that e-commerce has now become the key driving innovation factor for mobile payments in Nigeria.
Marek said this at the Nigeria Com Conference held this week in Lagos that brought telecoms decision makers to work out strategies on evolving networks and services to capture growth potential in Africa’s telecoms market.
According to Zmyslowski, e-commerce in Nigeria has experienced boom with the active participation of online retailers in the country.
“With the increasing Internet access, more affordable data costs, mobile connectivity and the convenience of purchasing goods and services online, more Nigerians are beginning to embrace the culture of transacting business online” he told attendees.
He refers to e-commerce as any business done over the Internet that could be buying, selling or a combination of both which could be a product, could be a service or a combination of both. “It’s anything that involves using the Internet or web as a business medium.”
According to him, mobile payment is now becoming a big trend in Nigeria. “The concept is no longer foreign as it used to be in the past. With this growing trend comes a huge business opportunity that only a handful of Nigerians are taking advantage of. Over 60 million Nigerians are online and counting.”
Zmyslowski reckons that with the increase in more people purchasing goods online, booking hotels online and transacting other forms of business online, mobile payment is on a steady rise while adding that “this is why at Jovago.com we are constantly innovating with better and more secure forms of mobile payments.”
