The Nigerian government says it is strengthening its push to become a leader in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with Google CEO Sundar Pichai in Paris on Wednesday.
The discussions, attended by Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, focused on forging a strategic partnership that will accelerate AI adoption, cloud computing, and the expansion of digital infrastructure across the country.

President Tinubu emphasised that the partnership “aligns seamlessly with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, centered on economic diversification through industrialization, technology, and innovation.”
According to the statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, the collaboration aims to position Nigeria as a global technology and innovation hub, leveraging AI to drive economic growth and competitiveness

Reaffirming Google’s support for Nigeria’s digital ambitions, CEO Sundar Pichai says that, “Nigeria has an incredible opportunity to lead in AI and digital innovation in Africa. Google is excited to continue working with the Nigerian government to create an ecosystem that fosters innovation and economic growth.”

The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy says It will provide strategic oversight, while the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) will coordinate efforts alongside the private sector to ensure widespread and meaningful impact.
