The Federal Government says it has deepened its partnership with Italy to enhance innovation, science, and technology in the country by advancing bilateral cooperation in key technological and scientific sectors.
Chief Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, disclosed the nations’ shared vision for driving economic growth and sustainability through technological advancements during a meeting with Lacopo Foti, Italy’s Acting Ambassador to Nigeria, at the Italian Embassy in Abuja.
“The discussions focused on fostering collaboration in renewable energy, research, and technology transfer, as well as identifying opportunities for joint innovation projects that will drive economic growth and sustainability in Nigeria,” Chief Uche says. “Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic and commercial ties in areas such as clean energy, industrial technology, and capacity building for research institutions.”
According to the Minister, the discussions focused on enhancing partnerships in renewable energy, research, and technology transfer. Both parties explored opportunities for joint innovation projects aimed at driving economic growth and sustainability in Nigeria.

The partnership aligns with Nigeria’s efforts to diversify its energy mix and decrease dependence on fossil fuels while enhancing its technological capabilities through technology transfer. The cooperation will involve sharing expertise and technologies to boost Nigeria’s renewable energy sector, with a focus on solar energy, wind power, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
“This high-level engagement aligns with Nigeria’s broader vision to position itself as a hub for scientific and technological advancements in Africa while leveraging global partnerships for knowledge exchange and investment in critical sectors,” Nnaji says.
Both nations are committed to strengthening ties in clean energy and industrial technology, with an emphasis on capacity building for Nigeria’s research institutions. This will involve training programmes and collaborations with Italian institutions to enhance Nigeria’s research capabilities and foster innovation.

The Minister also highlighted Nigeria’s dedication to innovation-driven economic transformation and welcomed deeper engagement with Italian stakeholders, while underscoring the need for strategic partnerships to facilitate the development of cutting-edge solutions benefiting both nations.
This partnership, the Minister says, underscores Nigeria’s efforts to broaden its strategy to engage with global partners in science and technology. The country has also been exploring partnerships with the European Union to enhance its technological capabilities and attract investment in key sectors.
