The Federal Government has announced the launch of the Nigerian National Volunteer web portal, a new platform aimed at providing citizens structured access to volunteer opportunities aligned with national development goals.
The portal, presented during a one-day stakeholders’ consultative meeting and public unveiling at Pearlworth Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, was developed by the Nigerian National Volunteer Service (NNVS) under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
Mr Nadungu Gagere, Permanent Secretary, OSGF, says the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to promoting civic engagement and sustainable development across Nigeria.

“The national volunteer database is built to offer Nigerians structured and easy access to volunteer opportunities that align with the country’s socio-economic, environmental and societal objectives,” Gagere says at the event.
The policy framework focuses on critical sectors including health, education, environment, and social work, with the digital portal designed to streamline engagement between volunteers and organisations seeking support.
Alongside the portal launch, the government also unveiled the National Policy on Inclusive Volunteerism, described by Gagere as “a detailed framework for organised and inclusive volunteerism across the country.”
He says the policy blueprint aims to institutionalise volunteerism as a recognised tool for national development by creating an enabling environment and strengthening governance structures and networks across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT.
The Federal Government says the policy particularly targets boosting volunteerism in southern states and deepening civic engagement to contribute towards the nation’s sustainable development goals.
The web portal and policy mark a shift towards coordinated and inclusive volunteer strategies in Nigeria, aligning with broader efforts to enhance citizen participation in national development initiatives, according to the government.
