The Nigerian government has unveiled a challenge for its 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) fellows to develop technology solutions addressing the most pressing problems in key sectors of the economy.
The 3MTT, an initiative of the Ministry of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), supported by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), was developed to President Bola Tinubu’s vision to provide 2 million jobs for Nigerian youths.
The Ministry has said that 3MTT Cohort 1 Fellows have been asked to proffer innovative solutions to tackle problems in major sectors of Nigeria through the Tech for Good Hackathon platform,
The 3MTT programme, establishment in 2023, has achieved the recent job placement of fellows; the completion of cohort 1 training in skills and knowledge and lately the drive to help improve sectors of the Nigerian economy through development of innovative technology solutions from fellows across the federation.
The drive is for interested Cohort 1 Fellows, who are required to form a team of 3-5 belonging to the same state across federation, to come up with a technical innovative solutions to pressing challenges in Nigeria on themes like healthcare, agriculture, gender equality, and others.
This competition sponsored by IHS, the largest independent owners, operators and developers of shared communications infrastructure in the world, are in two phases. The first is the state level where the top three teams from each state will advance to the sub-regional phase, thereby producing three winners at each sub-regional event to provide 36 winners across Nigeria.
At each 12 sub-regional events (Akwa Ibom, Delta, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, Kano, Anambra, Imo, Lagos, Ondo, FCT and Plateau) the 36 winners will win the prizes stated below:
First Place: NGN 600,000
Second Place: NGN 300,000
Third Place: NGN 100,000
Additional prizes: LinkedIn Premium membership, 100 GB MTN data and swags for all top three teams from each state.
Application for the Tech4Good hackathon which has been open is going to close on Wednesday May 15, 2024. Announcement of shortlisted teams will be made on the May 16 with sub-regional events beginning on May 21, the organisers announced.
