The Federal Government has launched a dedicated Housing Fraud Reporting portal to help Nigerians report fake developers, fraudulent housing schemes and other sharp practices in the real estate sector.
The portal located on reports.fmhud.gov.ng, allows citizens to submit complaints, upload evidence and track cases in a secure online environment.
Unveiling the system in Abuja, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, says the initiative is part of efforts to enforce the 2012 National Housing Policy, which mandates the government to strengthen regulation in the housing sector.

The Minister notes that many Nigerians have lost hard-earned money to fraudulent housing operators, stressing that the new system offers a credible channel to fight back.

“The policy directs government to establish an efficient legal and regulatory framework to monitor housing delivery and ensure that all professionals in the built environment are properly registered with their professional bodies,” Dangiwa says.
According to him, the new platform will enable closer scrutiny of estate developers through certification and regulation under the Ministry’s authority, while paving the way for the creation of a National Housing and Urban Development Regulatory Commission.
“This will mean tighter monitoring of real estate practices and stronger enforcement against fraudulent actors,” he says.

“The Housing Fraud Detection and Reporting Portal provides a safe and transparent way for Nigerians to report fraud, track cases, and help government take decisive action against culprits,” Dangiwa says.
He warns that sharp practices will no longer be tolerated, adding that the Ministry will work with law enforcement agencies, the judiciary and professional bodies to ensure offenders face sanctions.
The Minister also commended Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, alongside Committee members and consultants for their roles in delivering the project.
Marcus Amiolemen, Deputy Director and Head of ICT at the Ministry, says the Housing Fraud Reporting System was developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and is built to be user-friendly.
“The Ministry will review reports received on the platform and work with stakeholders to ensure proper investigations and actions are taken,” he says.
Alongside the fraud portal, the Ministry also rolled out a Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS), designed to strengthen oversight of government housing projects.
The system features a real-time dashboard for project data, contractor performance tracking guided by KPIs, mobile field reporting for engineers and supervisors, and a central repository for contracts and payment certificates.
Amiolemen says both initiatives demonstrate government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in housing delivery.
During the launch, consultants Freestone Investments Limited and Prunedge Development Technologies Limited showcased step-by-step demonstrations on how to use the portals.
With the new tools, the Ministry says it is taking a bold step to protect Nigerians, restore trust in real estate transactions, and move closer to achieving safe, decent and affordable housing for all.
