The Federal Ministry of Education has launched the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) Digital Portal alongside a new Strategic Vision for Nigerian Teachers, in a move officials say underscores government’s commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and professional standards.
The initiative, unveiled by Dr. Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, is designed to reposition the teaching profession and place teachers at the centre of national development.
According to the ministry, the TRCN Digital Portal — accessible via www.trcn.gov.ng — will bridge Nigeria’s longstanding teacher data gap while streamlining registration, licensing, renewals, and professional development. It will also serve as a national teacher database.

“Teachers can now register, update records, process licences, check results, and print certificates remotely,” the ministry said in a statement.
Professionalisation and safeguards
Dr. Alausa says that the digital platform is anchored on professionalisation, digitalisation, accountability, equity, and global alignment. He also unveiled a new Teacher Ethics and Criminal Record Verification Framework, which he described as a protective measure to safeguard classrooms rather than punish educators.
Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State for Education, adds that the launch reflects a redefinition of professionalism and aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda of equipping teachers with digital tools.
Dr. Ronke Soyombo, TRCN Registrar, added that the platform is part of her 100-day digitisation plan. “This will add reforms to streamline the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) into five core areas and the launch of an AI-powered lesson plan generator,” she said.
International backing
International partners, including the British Council and the British High Commission, commended the initiative, describing it as a step forward for transparency and motivation within Nigeria’s education sector.
